Pipe Major Fraser Dallas
Fraser began his piping career at the age of 15 with tuition
from the late Bob Stewart at Kilbryde Pipe Band,
which was at that time led by P/M Roddy Shanks. After learning the rudiments
there, and a couple of years competing in Grade 4 with the newly merged East
Kilbride Pipe Band, he was asked
to join The Glasgow Skye Association Pipe Band in Grade 1 under the
direction of P/M Ian Roddick. Fraser worked hard over the closed
season and successfully made the grade with "The
Skye". He learned a great deal during the 5 seasons in which he
was a member and attended Celtic Festivals including Lorient and Brest
during this time. Fraser was also a key member in the organisation of
the annual pre-worlds concert along with band secretary, Jim Cooper.
However, at the end of the 2000 season, work commitments took him to England, and as a result his
pipe band career was put on hold for a while.
After transferring north of the border again in late 2002, he was asked
to join The Royal Burgh of Stirling Pipe Band, led by his ex-Pipe Sergeant
from "The Skye", David McRobert, and enjoyed getting back into the band scene competing at
Grade 2. However, during the 2004 season, he was approached by his old
Pipe Major - Roddy Shanks - with the view of taking over the helm back at
East Kilbride.
Since joining East Kilbride Pipe Band for the 2005 season, the band
have increased in both numbers and strength, achieving reasonable results
and also some prizes during the first year competing under the new direction of Pipe Major Fraser
Dallas.
